The rabbit

Oh the rabbit wakes beneath the morning light
Where fields are soft and skies are bright
It runs through grass with gentle feet
Believing every soul it meets
Oh the rabbit hears the forest sing
And trusts the songs the branches bring
Every shadow every sound
Feels like a friend upon the ground
Oh the rabbit knows no hidden blade
No secret price for kindness made
It sees a hand and feels no fear
It sees a face and draws it near
Oh the rabbit asks the world to stay
The same tomorrow as yesterday
For what is a heart that learns to hide
When all it wanted was a place beside
Oh the rabbit grows beneath the trees
Learning the whispers of the leaves
But tell me now before it knows
Are all the flowers safe from thorns that grow
Oh perhaps the rabbit was never blind
Perhaps the world was simply unkind
For innocence is not a foolish thing
It is a fragile and beautiful wing
Oh I wonder as the forest sleeps
And every creature hides what it keeps
If the rabbit loses trust one day
Will it still remember how to play...
