The Fox

Published on 16/07/2026

The fox smiles softly as it walks the night It hides its hunger beneath a gentle face The fox takes only what hunger asks to live It waits in silence beneath the pale moonlight It watches every movement every place The fox smiles softly as it walks the night It runs after deer beneath the fading light Not out of hatred not out of disgrace The fox takes only what hunger asks to live Oh the fox laughs at its own little lie For even truth can wear a different face The fox smiles softly as it walks the night It wonders if deception is truly a crime When survival is the reason for the chase The fox takes only what hunger asks to live But man builds traps beyond the need to survive And takes more than the forest could ever give The fox smiles softly as it walks the night Oh perhaps the fox is honest in its sin Perhaps the hunter is the one lost within The fox takes only what hunger asks to live And I wonder as the forest watches the fight Is a lie worse when spoken to deceive Or when spoken by those who have comfort to give The fox smiles softly as it walks the night The fox takes only what hunger asks to live
