The bear and its honey

Oh the bear walks through the forest searching for the sweetness of the hive Oh the bear walks through the forest only searching for the sweetness to survive And the hive never knew their golden gift would become the reason they would die Oh thousands of bees built walls with the labour of their tiny wings Oh thousands of bees built homes beneath the flowers and the songs they sing But one heavy paw breaks what many hands created for a taste of sweeter things Oh the bear does not hate the hive, it does not carry a heart of stone Oh the bear does not hate the hive, it only knows the hunger it has known And when the honey touches its tongue, it forgets what was taken from another home Oh the flowers bloomed without knowing what their beauty would become Oh the flowers bloomed without knowing their sweetness would leave another numb For even the gifts of the earth can become a weapon when desire overcomes Oh the bear walks away with honey and the forest calls it cruel Oh the bear walks away with honey, yet who decides what makes a creature a fool When every living thing takes something just to survive beneath the rule Oh tell me little bear, when did hunger become greed Oh tell me little bear, when did wanting become a selfish need For the hive gave all it had, and the bear only took what it believed it needed Oh perhaps the bear is not evil Perhaps the bear is simply alive Perhaps the difference between mercy and destruction Is only what another creature needs to survive Oh the hive will rebuild beneath the flowers again Oh the bear will return when the hunger calls again And the forest will watch quietly asking... When does necessity become greed?
